Teaching and Scholarly Interests

A proud native of Georgia, Slaton has been a dedicated Physician Assistant caring for cancer patients since 2005, with experience spanning medical oncology, gynecologic oncology, and surgical oncology. She began clinical precepting in general surgery in 2014 and transitioned to full-time academia in November 2019.

Since then, she has served as a lecturer across multiple courses within the PA curriculum, focusing on cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), gastrointestinal and dermatologic malignancies, and clinical year instruction. Slaton is deeply committed to mentorship, consistently guiding and supporting students throughout their academic and professional journeys. Her passion for teaching is matched by her dedication to developing future healthcare providers who are both clinically skilled and culturally sensitive.

She remains active in the community, promoting cancer prevention and awareness, and is especially passionate about serving underserved populations. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys traveling, gardening, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Slaton is thrilled to return to the community where she was raised and is honored to contribute to the development of a growing Physician Assistant program. She looks forward to helping shape a dynamic and innovative curriculum that prepares culturally competent PAs to meet the needs of diverse and underserved communities.
