The Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation is seeking a current 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø graduate student to assist with social media management and campus engagement efforts. The Graduate Assistant will work closely with the Athletics Department to promote events, engage the campus community, and enhance the visibility of athletics, physical education, and recreation programs. This role will involve managing digital content, organizing outreach initiatives, and fostering a strong connection between the student body and athletics programs.
While not a licensed therapist or counselor, the mentor brings personal experience as a former athlete and professional experience in mental health support roles. They work alongside coaches and athletic staff to complement existing services, emphasizing positive mindset development, self-awareness, and healthy coping strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide regularly scheduled drop-in hours or one-on-one sessions with student-athletes.
- Facilitate small group discussions or workshops on topics like handling pressure, maintaining motivation, and overcoming mental blocks.
- Promote healthy, non-clinical mental performance habits such as visualization, goal-setting, and mindfulness.
- Serve as a trusted and relatable resource who understands the unique mental demands of college athletics.
- Refer students to campus counseling services when appropriate concerns arise.
- Collaborate with coaches and athletic staff to support overall athlete wellness and retention.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Former collegiate or professional athlete strongly preferred.
- Experience in a mental health support role (e.g., psychiatric technician, peer mentor, wellness facilitator).
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a commitment to student-athlete development.
- Clear understanding of boundaries between non-clinical support and clinical care.

Eligibility & Requirements
- For consideration at the time of admission, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and completed their program(s) in good standing at their previous institutions.
- Current graduate students must maintain good academic standing, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Students must be enrolled to accept an assistantship offer.
- A graduate assistant may not be employed in any other position on the 91³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø campus nor can they hold two assistantship positions in one semester.
- International students will have additional steps to complete to be hired as a GA.
- GAs must enroll in a minimum of 9 attempted semester hours for each fall or spring semester of their assistantship.
- Students completing a graduate assistantship during the summer semester must maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours.
- Graduate Assistantship grants or employment cannot be deferred.
- Graduate students will work with the assigned project supervisor for 10-15 hours per week for the time period indicated on the contract based on assignment. Students must work a minimum of 10 hours per week, and may not work more than 19 hours a week.
